Weight Loss Pills: Do They Work?

Reviewing the effectiveness of weight loss pills A lot of people today worry too much about their weight and most of them find ways on how to lose weight easily. One of the many approaches in losing weight is through the use of diet pills. The question is if these weight loss pills really do their job of reducing your weight, and yes, most pills are able to do so.

There are a lot of diet pills available in the market today. They can be bought in drugstores, supermarkets, even online and they can be classified into two: over-the-counter and prescription pills. Over-the-counter pills are medicines which can be bought in drug stores even without prescription while other diet pills can only be bought if you are able to present a prescription from the doctor. Since the Food and Drug Administration or FDA have no total control over the dietary supplements industry, there are some diet pills which were not tested before selling them in the market, However, once the products are already being bought, the FDA strictly monitors and researches the drugs and their effectiveness. Once proven that the products are unsafe, they are actually banned for use.

The common action of weight loss pills that lead to weight reduction includes decreasing the absorption of dietary fat, increasing the calories burned, decreasing appetite and increasing the rate of metabolism of fat and calories. These mechanisms would depend on the ingredients included in the pill. For instance, one popular product contains ingredients which act as a blocker of fat and eliminating fats in your body through the intestine.

Most diet pills are really effective, safe and are able to do what they claim to do. There are also pills which may work but have adverse side effects making them unsafe while there are others which are not effective at all. The ingredients would also determine if the pills are safe since there are pills which use ingredients with an amount that is greater than the allowable dosage. There are also some pharmaceutical companies which use ingredients that are not safe to enter the body. Two of these pills which are effective but are not safe and are already banned by the FDA are Ephedra and Country Mallow which are both OTC drugs. Another probably unsafe weight loss pill is Bitter Orange.

Now, even though there are a lot of diet pills available, you should be careful in choosing which among the medicines could be safely used and which are really effective. In the process of choosing, you should carefully read the labels of the medicines, research about their ingredients, ask your doctor or dietician and visit the website of the FDA for alerts of safety regarding the use of these pills.

However, even though most diet pills really work, they are usually not enough especially since these medicines should only be used for a short duration of utmost six months where the effects would already be at its peak. After this period, you will likely develop a tolerance for the drug and they will no longer have an effect on you anymore. Thus, you should also accompany the use of these pills with the correct lifestyle including proper exercise and right diet.
